Microtel Inn & Suites Cabanatuan: Hotel-In-a City with a Nice Country Vibe @microtelph

I was to attend the Christening of my cousin's daughter in Gapan Nueva Ecija two weeks ago and I thought of staying in Cabanatuan the night before so as to make it at 9:00 an the next day. What made my decision easier was when I found out that there is a Microtel by Wyndham branch there. And when I saw online that it has a pool, my decision was sealed. I have tried Microtel in Mall of Asia with my aunts before and I like to no-frills feel of the brand. The one in Cabanatuan has the same ambiance of that of Baguio branch, and I have been dying to stay at the latter but it was always fully booked during my visit. The one in Cabanatuan I found out later is actually 9 years old. Wow! Older than my blog.

The hotel is located 2 kms off city center if you consider the central bus terminal as city center. That is a comfortable distance and if you are commuting takes only around 30-50 pesos by tricycle depending on the time of the day. Just tell the driver to take you to Microtel in Sta Arcadia and they know it. The fact that it is a little off from city center is a big advantage for Microtel Cabanatuan because it is in an area the is quiet so you get this hotel-in-a-city with a country vibe.1-GOPR3829
I liked this so much because the hotel is located in a big lot that affords it big ooen parking and a pool. It is very near the intersection of Mabini Street Extension and Emilio Vergara Highway so it is very accessible but at the same not not too noisy because of the comfortable distance from the intersection.

Free Shuttle Transfers
This is what I really like about Microtel Cabanatuan. I was asked prior to arrival if I would require shuttle service from the Central Bust Terminal. I said "ok". I was expecting that I would have to pay for it eventually but I found out that they offer "free shuttle" service within the city. And it is not just an ordinary shuttle but Toyota Innova. Class. Convenience. And the two different drivers who took me to and from the hotel were so nice. They made sure I felt comfortable and they even refused my tip. Very professional.
Room Types and Rates
On their website, you can book this for as low as 2,900 php for 2 Queen Beds Room and 3,600 php for a Queen Bed Suite. That is already a good deal as max capacity is at 4pax ( 2 adults , 2 kids) and breakfast is included. Checked Agoda and you can even get a cheaper deal at $47 per night (for dates June 6-7, 2017) which is roughly 2,350 php for a 2 Queen Beds Room. Winner!

Suite Room
I was supposed to go with a friend but an engagement in Manila made it impossible for him to go so I asked front desk if I could request for a room with single bed since it felt awkward sleeping in one bed with another empty bed. Unfortunately, out of the 50 rooms they have, all except 6 are double rooms. I was lucky I was upgraded to a suite room. Yay!

The hotel is also friendly to Persons With Disabilities as four (4) of their double-bed rooms are for PWD's. As friendly as the staff who will greet you with warm hospitality.

Thanks to its location, having a small pool and a yard next to it is a key feature of Microtel Cabanatuan. Although only 4 ft deep, the whole family can enjoy bonding moments here as kids can swim with adults. When I was there, swimming lessons were ongoing and many youngsters enrolled for summer classes that lasts until June. It is indeed a family-friendly hotel. This also adds character to the hotel. If one is not in the mood for a swim, chairs and tables are available so can just hang around and chill.
Breakfast Buffet
Breakfast is rather simple -- toast, scrambled egg or sunny side up, coffee, main dishes being sardines and tapa, fruits, cereals --- but it is buffet which means you can keep coming back for more servings. Breakfast is included in the room rate which translates to 2 adults, 2 kids all having to eat. That's a good deal already unlike other hotels with the same price range that offer only plated "silog' breakfast.
Places of Interest

While the area is primarily known as a center for commerce, there is also a number of interesting attractions located in and around the city. These include the following:

Plaza Lucero — where Gen. Antonio Luna, Filipino revolutionary and hero, was assassinated
Hapag Vicenticos Restaurant — multi-awarded Filipino restaurant known for their specialty: frog dishes\
Camp Pangatian Memorial Shrine — a park commemorating the Raid at Cabanatuan or The Great Raid, one of the most successful rescue operations in World War II
Lakewood Golf and Country Club — the only all-weather 18-hole golf course in Nueva Ecija

Gateway to the North
Dubbed the “Gateway to the North,” Cabanatuan City is considered the economic center of Nueva Ecija and Central Luzon.
