KUALA LUMPUR CALLING: tips on exchanging peso to Malaysian Ringgit

One of the major concerns when travel to other countries is Foreign Exchange.I was tweeting before leaving Manila as to what would be the best thing to do.1.To bring Philippine peso to be exchanged to Malaysian Riggit once I get there of 2. To bring my peso atm and simply withdraw in local atm's in Kuala Lumpur?

Most advised me to go for option #1. One can never be sure your peso atm would work in Malaysia or not.Last time I heard, there is no automatic conversion here.

tips on exchanging peso to Malaysian Ringgit

We landed in KL last night at around 11:30,there was a short program with the dignitaries from Malaysia,The Philippine embassy here and Airphil Express so we had to stay a few minutes before we line for clearing at the immigration. It was already almost 2am when we arrived at our hotel and we all knew the money changers were already closed.

But we resisted exchanging our peso notes at the airport. You still get the best value in money changers downtown.Thought the difference might be for a few cents but every penny counts when you are in a foreign country.Good thing our guide who via Tourism Malaysia was generous enough to lend us 50MR each.We were able to go out upon dropping our bags in our rooms for an early morning meal.

So WHERE IS THE BEST PLACE TO EXCHANGE PHILIPPINE PESO TO MALAYSIAN RINGGIT?

Downtown. In my case, I was able to survive until late afternoon til I found a money changer along Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur's equivalent to Singapore's Orchard Road.I exchange 5,000 pesos and got 365RM.That means a conversion rate of 0.073RM per peso.I saw other money changers nearby and some of them have it for 0.071---I think I had a good deal there :)

So there,if you are going to Malaysia or elsewhere, better have it changed downtown :)

  1. Airport rates are higher compared to normal. KL International Airport (on the other side of LCCT) have money changers open upon your arrival. It's just that business is business, and business is good at the airport. ^__^

  4. Wow, this info is really useful :) I was actually wondering if ASEAN countries have some kind of money exchange servicing coalition. Would you happen to know? also, could I ask if there are any money exchanges right outside the airport?

  5. Wow, this is really useful info. I remember seeing money exchange stations in Malaysia last time I visited but was mixed up with the other ASEAN countries I visited. I was also wondering if ASEAN countries have some kind of money exchange servicing coalition, I remember in Singapore they also allow to exchange from PhP (if my memory doesn't fail me) would you happen to know?

  11. Hi, which is better, having my peso changed here in the Philippines or in Malaysia? Which choice will I get the most value? :)

  12. I would prefer have em changed in banks here kung kaya.Less aberya.Although very transparent naman sila sa mga money changers nila sa KL---good luck and enjoy!!! :)

  13. Does that mean na I get more value for my money if I have them changed here? Sorry ang kulit. Haha. My mom was also suggesting na magpachange na lang kami to US dollar here and that's what we're going to use in Malaysia. Is that even advisable?

  14. Yeah, I think that's the best option.Bring US $$$ and yun nalang papalitan nyo sa KL.cheers!
