JUPITER SUITES MAKATI: Affordable rates, friendly staff, unbeatable location

JUPITER SUITES is a budget accommodation located three blocks away from the corner of Jupiter Street and Makati Avenue. I would like to emphasize early on that this is a budget hotel so don't expect me to compare it with other 5-star accommodations in the area.

Once known as the JUPITER ARMS HOTEL, it now boasts of recently upgraded spacious rooms, with each one equipped with modern comfort at par with industry standards.

Jupiter Suites Makati

The hotel is housed in a 4-storey building and boasts of 25 newly renovated rooms. Though the building is quite old, the interior is well maintained and clean. It has this rustic but homey feel inside.

The lobby is rather simple with the reception area at the far end from the entrance. One thing you will instantly notice though is the warmth of the staff. The guard was always all smile at opening the door and the receptionists were very accommodating. The one in charge of the front desk was friendly and casual which gives guests a relaxed mood.

The elevator will only take you up to the 3rd floor, from there, you will have to take the stairs to the 4th floor like in our case since our room was located at 406. The elevator is rather small and boxy since it has no mirror and it has this weird freefall feel at times but it works perfectly efficient. The hallways are dimly lit and one can notice the marble floor.

OUR ROOM

There are three (3) room types at Jupiter Suites Makati, Standard, De Luxe and Family but the standard rooms has variations depending on your needs. One can book a standard queen, standard double and standard triple room. For the deluxe rooms, double deluxe rooms and deluxe queen are the options. For a bigger entourage, family room is the best fit.

We stayed in a De Luxe Room which is 30 sq.meters with one queen bed good for two pax.
De Luxe Rooms normally cost Php 3,580 based on the hotel's published rate but you can actually get it foras low as Php 1,885.25 in Agoda.

I like the wooden accent on one side of the room. This serves dual purpose as a room accent and at the same time the headboard of the queen size bed. At first it could make the room a bit gloomy but I was surprised that inside the white strips on the wall are actually bulbs you can turn on to add drama to the space. Appreciate this.

The orientation of the room is rather rectangular rather than squarish so you get a feeling of a squeeze at times but its length makes up for the space. 30 sq. meter for a budget accommodation is not bad at all.

STRONG IN-ROOM WIFI (Free)
I still had to work that night since we checked in Friday night and Friday is work-as-usual for me. I instanly like the work station at the corner of the hotel next to the door leading to the balcony. I had to make calls to my clients via skype so I was glad the outside noise was not a problem. The free in-room wifi connection's signal was also strong so I was reading articles on my tablet while talking to somebody over my smartphone.

I like the directory they have in the room. Very informative and comprehensive. It has a listing of restaurants in the area as well as embassies and airline companies.

There is a small dining table next to the fridge where you can have your snack anytime you feel like having one. The snack bar has a variety of drinks including the essential San Miguel Beer. haha!

The restroom is quite decent. Again nothing fancy but efficiently functional. Hot and cold water works well and though water pressure is not the strong, it's good enough for a pleasant shower. Towels are cleans and fresh. Basic toiletries like soap and shampoo are also provided.

The Hotel is strictly NON SMOKING as per Makati City Ordinance #2002-090.

THE VIEW
Rooms at the 4th floor facing Ayala-side all have balconies. although the balconies are not we maximized, having one still means you can hang around to enjoy the Makati skyline anytime you want. I love rooms with balconies so I was here many times to appreciate the organized chaos of the city.

IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ACTION
Located at the happening district of Poblacion Makati City, checking in at Jupiter Suites gives you the advantage of being at the center of the action. The area is highly popular for nightlife, restaurants and shopping. A few meters  away from the hotel and you will find a wide array of dining choices as well as pubs should you want to just chill out any time of the day. The area is very alive at night, quite notorious for the red light district of Burgos Street but it is not to say that there is nothing for those who simply want clean fun.

A. Venue Mall is also nearby and the newly opened Century City Mall will definitely satisfy your crave for shopping. Rockwell, Greenbelt, Landmark and Glorietta are also within minutes away.

In our case, we enjoyed strolling around the area at night. The place is so alive in the evening. We ended up in front of A. Venue Mall where there are food stalls put up. We tried some of the food they have to offer and had a few bottles of beer too before finding our way back to our room at around midnight.

Top attractions in the area:
Makati Downtown (1.0 km)
Powerplant Mall (1.0 km)
Greenbelt Park (1.2 km)
Landmark Department Store - Makati (1.2 km)

THE RESTAURANT

The restaurant is located at the 2nd floor. It only opens in the morning (6:30-9:00am) to serve breakfast for guests as the room rate usually includes breakfast for two. The restaurant is rather a simple space with ordinary tables adorned by table clothes. The interior is plain with a cable tv hanging on the corner. Other than that, there is nothing much to appeal to the senses. Important thing is that it is well kept and clean.

The menu depends on the day. You will be given a list (usually 3 or 4 choices) and you will tick on your choice of plated breakfast.

BREAKFAST

During my stay, cheese sausages with toast, oatmeal and spam with fried rice were on the options. Comes with either milk, tea or juice.

If you are craving for something else, you could also ask the counter for a separate order. Separate charge applies which is usually 175 pesos including the clubhouse sandwich we tried.

I find the plated breakfast reasonable. The presentation (plating) is nicely done and the food palatable like the beef tapa I had. Not enough, I also requested for cheese sausages with toast. Yum!

If you wat to be at the center of the action in Makati, make sure you stay in the area of Poblacion. This is where nice shops, pubs and restaurants are all within reach. The financial district on one side and the entertainment district on the other. Jupiter Suites is in the midst of it all and it's one budget accommodation you will keep coming back to. ^^
