Cagayan de Oro as a set-off point to Camiguin is an interesting city one has to also give time to discover. And so we decided to spend at least 2 nights here ---during arrival and the night before departure -- and feel the place. Even only in transient, we wanted to experience interesting accommodation that we could easily recommend to friends. St.Nicholas Inn is one good example. I was actually more excited about the other inn we booked because of the nice photos on their website but St. Nicholas Inn is way better. A surprise find.
St. NICHOLAS INN Cagayan De Oro
Our friend Rupert found this in agoda.com. I reckon the place is relatively new because it has not so many reviews on TripAdvisor yet but that's what makes in appealing. It is fresh and not too crowded. Not to mention that it is located a little off the core downtown area so you feel that laidback vibe that Cagayan de Oro once was before the construction frenzy started.
I will not speak so much of the people in the inn as we had minimal contact with them. All I can remember are the warm smiles that greet us each time we go out and go back the inn and the quick check inn upon arrival. We didn't eat breakfast here too because we had to leave for Camiguin very early the next day.
We booked two superior rooms for only 1,600php, one shared by two of our friends and the other shared by me, my wife and another friend Ghema. Luckily, the bed was queen size so all three of us were able to fit. Quite a squeeze but we had a comfortable sleep just the same. The room is spacious so we had a lot of leeway going around and for our things. Air conditioning in our room was good but the one in the other room was not as efficient. Restroom was clean and comes with a heater. Enough space at the closet, small fridge, cable tv ok and clean bed sheets. I have no complain at all. A room like this for 800 pesos is already a treat for me.
We were located at the 2nd floor and I like the the ample open space next to the stairs. There are two sofas where one can just lazy around and access their free wifi. From there is a small staircase leading to the rooftop. It's a small area mainly for the consumption of the inn --hanging of laundry and storage --but guests can also access it for fresh air. I am a smoker so I like rooftops. It provides breathing space and also looking around from rooftops give you a sense of where you are and where things are in the city.
