Wow! Asian Street Food Festival at The Food Exchange Manila is just Wow!

For Novotel Manila Araneta Center to be able to gather eight (8) chefs from different countries in Asia-Pacific (Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, China, Japan, Korea, India and the Philippines) for a single food event is something. Not to mention, including Celebrity Chef Sau Del Rosario! I say "wow bongga!". That's how serious The Food Exchange at Novotel Manila is on its latest food event " Asian Street Food Festival" which runs from Aug 17 until Sept 3. For those of you who missed it this weekend, you still have more than a week to feast on the different flavors of Asia with lunch buffet as low as 1,299 php!

I frequent The Food Exchange Manila and it remains my favorite when it comes to buffet (great food, wide selection, chill interior, easily accessible and reasonably priced) but I thought nothing much will surprise me anymore. But, another but, I was really thrilled with the Asian Street Food selection. Just wow! Normally, I take time to take photos, and I did so last Wednesday when the event opened, but at the back of my mind I was like " I am doing this real quick! ". I couldn't wait to sample the dishes!

By the way, " street food" in Asian Street Food event doesn't mean "all street food". You still have the best regular buffet selections but with a twist of so many street food.

With so many choices on offer, I started with my comford food being Filipino cuisine. Kaldereta, Kare-kare, pork bbq, sisig paella, lumpiang sariwa, kinilaw na tuna, ensaladang talong, pako salad. I am a fan of Malaysian and Thai food and it is normal.to think that the latter two are more superior than our cuisine but I was sooooo proud of our chef from Philippines for making this set of Filipino faves something to wow for! On a level that will renew your faith in Filipino food if you are not a fan.

Indian food I am not really a fan of so I skipped on that but they have a resident Indian chef at the Food Exchange and I heard they really have a good selection of Indian dishes. Mutton Curry they say is really good. And to find Chili Crabs, Hainanese Chicken and Rojak ( Singapore) in the selection made my mouth water. You can hardly find chili crabs in normal buffets and I ate lots of it.

For Thailand, look for Thai Massaman Beef Curry, seafood basil and papaya salad. The Papaya salad was closest to one I tasted in Bangkok a few weeks ago. Yeah, since I was fresh from my Thailand trip I was so craving for Thai food and I was really satisfied.

Of course Korean and Japanese cuisines are also well represented, my good old favorites beef bulgogi, japchae and bibimbap. For Japan there is pork katsudon and tofu steak with teriyaki sauce. Yum yum yum!

Look for the salad section and you will be delighted to see gado gado with spicy peanut sauce from Vietnam, cucumber black fongus from China, water radish kimchi and around five more varieties of kimchi. So appetizing. By this time, I was already so full. Too bad there were more things to try like laksa from Malaysia, lechon macau and other skewer food.

But of course, no matter how full you are, there is always room for desserts. Sans rival cake, buko pandan cake, maja de blanca, sapin-sapin, pulvoron, latik, leche flan and many more. And to my surprise they got mango sticky rice. Wow! And you might want to end your buffet with sorbetes finale. Asian Street Food Festival at The Food Exhange Manila is just wow!
