Richmonde Hotel Iloilo: Large Room Cuts, A Pool to Envy and A Restaurant with Lots of Wow Food Finds

"What do we do in Iloilo for 6 days?" , asked my partner after I accidentally booked return tickets without noticing that it is indeed too long for a supposed pre-summer quick getaway. " Then we just chill around, not rush into going here and there and not stuffing our itinerary of things to do and see" I said. Maybe it's a sign of old age but I am already tired of the amazing-race-style travel. I think you get to know and feel the place for real if you tune with the pace of locals.

"Don't worry, I found some nice hotels to try" , I assured him. Of course he didn't completely take my word for it. But day one proved to be so good and on day two, we transferred to Richmonde Hotel and the trip got even more exciting.

Iloilo City is in an economic boom and with it is the onslought of both leisure and business travelers. I was here in 2013 and I see the big progress. Back then, Iloilo was "ok but nothing much to see". Now, you can stay for 1 week and you you will find out that there is more to try.

Large Room Cuts

Hurrah to the most spacious deluxe room I have ever tried in a hotel anywhere in the Philippines. And if their deluxe room is this spacious, I couldn't imagine how big their premier rooms and one-bedroom suites are. Talk about never feeling crowded. Every corner of the room exudes class.
Richmonde’s signature Luxe bed provides utmost comfort with plush beddings of 300 thread-count sheets, soft duvets, and duck-feather pillows.

The bed really spoils you with comfort. We were supposed to wake up early as we were to leave for Northern Iloilo but we overslept and actually requested for late check out. This bed is a temptation. I noticed though that all the lights in the room including the restroom are all white. It would have been lovely if some are yellow-ish to add more dimension to this very spacious room.

The Pool to Envy

The pool looks so good in photos and even more stunning in person. Thanks to the all-glass building in its blue allure. With the tiles of the pool also blue and the sun so bright, it felt so summer. We didn't mind the sun dipped here til 11:00 am. So Instagram-worthy, your friends will die in envy. This is where you wanna be seen. Next to the pool is a spacious open space which is perfect for events.

We had Heinekin beer by the Pool Bar. Thanks to the Beer-match promo, we enjoyed the "better" taste of draft Heinekin beer ( yes it is better than in bottle you can buy in convenience stores) paired with sisig wrap which only Richmonde Iloilo has. I have never tried sisig in a"turon" wrapper before so I find this really genius. A perfect beer match indeed.

Lots of Wow Food Finds!

The Granary
Location : Upper Ground Floor
Seating Capacity : 70 pax
Operating Hours : 6 am to 10 pm, Daily
Breakfast Buffet –PhP 675 nett
Dinner Buffet –Friday to Sunday, PhP 950 nett

The biggest revelation was The Granary restaurant. One can put up the best edifice, it's easy, but to bring the best talents to run the place is another thing. I was expecting dining here to be pleasant as expected of a 4-star hotel but I was from wow to wow while trying their food. It seems that everything in the spread is tasty it could actually give many 5-star hotel restaurants in Manila a run for the money. With a wide selection, would you believe that their weekend dinner buffet is only 995 pesos nett per pax? That's a total deal winner!

Their lechon is the star of the dinner buffet. Be sure to look for it. Also don't miss their kebab with a choice of pork, chicken or seafood. Simple as it may look, the eggplant parmigiana is to die for. Another favorite of mine is fried molo with sweet chili sauce. I am not that much of a fan of dimsum coz there is lots of it everywhere, nakakasawa na, but their siomai here is extra-flavorful and soft to perfection.Another star is their carrot cake. I swear I ate lots of it. And what about unlimited sparkling wine? Winner!

The Bizbar
Snug yet stylish, BizBar is a bar cum entertainment lounge where you can enjoy a wide range of sights and sounds as you wind down the day with fine drinks, tasty food, and good company.
It's the place for the right kind of chill where you enjoy your drinks in a very cozy environment. There is live band on Saturdays too. We were supposed to have our Beer Match here but we opted to have it by the poolside the next day.

Location : Upper Ground Floor
Seating Capacity : 40 pax
Operating Hours : 4 pm to 12 mn, Tuesday to Sunday

Breakfast Buffet
Best Bacon ever!
For breakfast buffet. Their bacon is the star. I have never tried bacon this crispy with consistent flavor. I turned into a glutton on this one. Then there is unlimited yogurt (mango flavor) and yakult. Yes, something healthy to counter the guild of overeating bacon. Ahahaha. Oh, and did I mention that their "ensaymada" was awarded best dessert 2017 by Philippine Daily Inquirer Lifestyle. I only remember not being satisfied with only one (1) , yes, one dish and it was not bad at all. With everything else very tasty, you will not look for somewhere else to dine in Iloilo may it be breakfast, lunch or dinner. Kudos to all their chef for a job well done.

Nearby Attractions
Richmonde Hotel is literally next to Iloilo Convention Center and is stone throw away from SM Iloilo. Since the hotel is at the core of Megaworld property in the city which used to be the old airport, there are many offices (bpo) around which means there are a lot of small dining options as well. Speaking of dining, a few blocks away is Festive Walk dotted by retail shops and fine restaurants. The street in front transforms into a food haven on weekend where shipping containers transform into food stalls  and tables are set up on the street. It's banchetto-style dining with lots of class. Also a few block from Festive Walk is Central Park Iloilo which is another popular dining slash drinking destination in the city. Smallville on the other hand is around 50 pesos away by cab.

Oh, did I mention that the newly opened Iloilo Museum of Contemporary Art is at the end section of Festive Walk. It opened on our last day in the city but we came all the way from Concepcion area so it was already closed when we got back in the city. Another one to look forward to on our next visit here.
