Shrine of Valor : on the right place at the right time........

___________________________

Shrine of Valor memorial
proved to be a very
surprising find........

The hike reminded me
of UP Los Banos on the way
to their famous bird sanctuary
atop the hill.

It also gives you a feeling
Baguio City with the Pine trees
and the cool wind........

Or say Tagaytay's Palaca in the sky , this time with the view of Bataan Straight.

But this is a special place, and the fact there is a big cross facing the historic Island of Corregidor as a mute testament to all those who died in defence of this country sends shivers to my spine......

I though it was just a cross, but on it's base are murals and in itself stories of greatness......

you can actually climb it with the help of an elevator but it was closed the time we were there so this is the highest point we got. In here I learned that it was constructed in 1966 under the administration of President MARCOS. We therefore owe this magnificent place to him.

I also noticed that there is a newly constructed helipad on it's side where you can have a good view of the other side and the nearby mountains.
Below it you can see the end of the trail that we hiked for 2 hours and 45 minutes or shall I say the start of the trail that we traveled for another 1.5 hours on the way down.

We started our descent at exactly 10am, we then noticed that there are so many people on their way up. We then learned that it was the 5th Diocesan Mt. Samat Pilgrimage......

Talk about being at the right place at the right time. I am not at all religious but I guess there really is a force which led us here..........

  13. I am Bong--- tumalon namn ang puso ko Bong---salamat.

Borneo Falcon --the sea below if the entrance to the capital City Manila. During the battle of Manila in the 2nd world war, the Japanese sent there warships there adn warplanes as back up. Those guns are anti-aircraft weapons used by the American-Filipino forces that time. That's why this place is a memorial for all those men who defended us that time.....
