The CHURCH OF SAN DIEGO Silay + ruins of the old church

I though I have given up on blogging about churches long time ago even before my interest on it peaked.Thinking about it now,I wonder why I lost heart.Maybe because I thought it's unfair that more often than not, many places are highlighted by a 'Catholic Church' as an attraction and nothing more. But I am beginning to realize now that these Catholic Churches are indeed part of the heritage we all should be proud of.

Before leaving Silay last October 20,we dropped by the Church of San Diego which I heard is the only Dome church in the whole of Negros.Cool!

Passing by,the thing you instantly notice is the imposing structure that is the new church and the colorful (green) accent of it's dome's interior..It's not that it was build only a few years ago,but the main church is relatively new compared to the old one which is located at the backyard or the existing church.

THE OLD CHURCH

The church just before the present structure was typically constructed of massive walls of concrete, masonry and bricks. In fact, it was larger than the present one. And there is an unconfirmed report that the church was built through voluntary labor.

Revolution against the Spaniards in Negros Island took place on November 5, 1898, leaving the church unfinished. SOURCE:

  3. That dome structure is similar to Sta. Lucia Church in At. Lucia, Ilocos Sur... :) I do agree to your statement about these churches as part of our heritage in which we must take care of... :)
