How to get to CALAGUAS ISLAND from Naga

I am writing this because I feel guilty for Naga that I couldn't feature anything about the place as we used it only as a set off point to Calaguas and then to Legaspi.I know it deserves a better mention.I heard of the attractions at Mount Isarog and CWC of course na di manlang namin nadaanan kasi sa byahe palang to and from Calaguas ubos na oras.Even the church of Penafrancia downtown,di narin namin nasilip manlang.

One notable thing about Naga is that they have good central terminal for buses/jeepneys and FX.

The Terminal for  Provincial buses is near SM-Naga,for fx to Daet are at LCC Mall, for fx to Legaspi, also near SM,just across the street.

1.bus or plane---- to Naga
2.Fx or bus----- to Daet
3.Tricycle -----to Vinzons or bus to Paracale.
4.Boat---- to Calaguas Island. (Mahabang Buhangin)

Note: We took the bus to Naga and it was an unpleasant 7-hour ride.Normally takes 8-9hours.Our driver just compensated for the lost time.I suggest you take the plane.Plan your trip ahead and look for cheap flights. It will save you a lot of time---and energy.

Better take the FX from Naga to Daet. It's faster, 1.5hours at 180php per head.Be ready to wait for the fx to be filled though.Buses usually take 2hours or more.Road condition to Daet is good.Good view as well as you pass by Bicol National Park. Not so many town centers along the way so traffic condition is very smooth.

From Daet. You can choose between taking two (2) set-off points to Calaguas.

1.Vinzonz ---only 20minutes by tricycle. From Daet fx terminal at 150php per tricycle.
Three (3) hours to Calaguas.

in Vinzons,you can CONTACT:
Kuya Jovy --- 09092263870
Kuya Putong --09205666985

2.Paracale --- 45mins-1hour by bus from Daet.
Two (2) hours to Calaguas.

If you are a big group,go for Vinzons. That's where the big fishing boats are which could take in at least 20 passengers each.Small boats usually cost 4k-5k each.Up to 6 or 7 passengers.Be ready for a longer trip if waves are bigger than usual. In our case,it took us 4hours.Bone breaking!Good for those who love adventure though.

If you can spare longer land tour,go for Paracale.Boats are cheaper.I heard 2,500php -3k php.Sea travel is shorter too--2hours on normal wave conditions. The route is also favorable for big waves coz you don't have to go sideways against it.Although still depending on the season I guess.

Best time to go there.

Summer!Mid-March to Early May.
We came earlier,February 9,in time for Lunar New Year. The waves were still big so all five of us got traumatized.Well, nobody said the waves are small. And so I was warned but the weather patterns are crazy these days.We were greeted by a thunderstorm while making our final approach to the island so it became even worse.Calaguas is not for the faint-hearted.

Bring garbage bags and secure your bags or else all your clothes and stuff will get wet.Drink bonamine (Bonamine talaga?lol) if you have to.It's gonna be one hell of a ride :)

  7. "why not fly directly to Daet?", one asked. Because there is no commercial plane flying directly from Manila to Daet. By bus from manila is like 8-9hrs trip. The "somehow" shortest commute: Manila to Naga via Plane, Naga to Daet via Bus, Daet to Calaguas via Vinzons or Paracale. I would choose Paracale.

  8. hello! hope you can reply to this. Can we share the boat with other people? We're only two people and spending 2k to 3k for a boat is a pricey.

  9. You can ride Superlines busses from Manila to Paracale. It's cheaper and less hassle.
