Free Entrance on Sundays at the NATIONAL MUSEUM of the Philippines #NationalArtGallery

So kung hindi pa libre and entrance hindi pa ako makakapag National Museum. Not that I cannot afford it. 350 pesos is no biggie but something else gets prioritized when I am in the City of Manila. Don't blame me, museum visits are usually associated to anything boring. But not the National Museum of the Philippines. This one is on a different level. And to find out that they have this Free Entrance Program every Sunday made me wanna check it out finally especially because we were in Intramuros at that time at ilang tumbling nalang. Lols

The National Museum of the Philippines has four (4) locations all within the City of Manila. The two main offices are (1.) The Old Senate Building where the National Art Gallery is housed and the (2) American Colonial building immediately next to it referred to as the Museum of the Filipino People.

The two other locations are the (3) National Planetarium located at Japanese Garden of Rizal Park and the (4) National Museum of Natural History which is under development at the building presently occupied by the Department of Tourism.

I heard that the building interior is newly renovated. It is easily noticeable despite me not seeing the old interior as the place is spotless, the hallways beautifully painted and art collections tastefully arranged. Even the restrooms are clean although more can be done on them. The airconditioning system is good which in itself is a strong statement. You can comfortably go around the place and simply focus on grasping the art collection mostly paintings and sculptures.

The main hall at the 2nd floor houses the most famous painting in the Philippines ---Juan Luna's Spoliarium. Some of the most notable pieces on the collection at the National Art Gallery includes Coronation of the Virgin, Retablo, Spoliarium, Mother's Revenge, Governor Dasmarinas, La Descencion de Jesus, Bust of Mons. G. Aglipay, Burning Sto. Domingo, Christmas Card Series, Harana in Manila, Ink Fish, First Mass of Limasawa, Planting of the Cross, Mother and Child and Hills of Nikko among others.

Going through galleries is indeed a walk in history lane. I enjoyed the artwork during the latter part of the 350-year Spanish occupation and the buildup to Philippine Revolution.

At some point though, it felt like an overload of paintings. I didn't know prior to the visit that the old Senate building is all about such. We wanted to check the other building for a more diverse taste of Philippine artifacts but it was already 5:00pm and closing time.

Another Sunday perhaps? It's really nice that the National Museum of the Philippines this free entrance on Sunday as it encourage Flipinos and foreigners alike to know more of rich history of the Philippines. It has been going on for a while so I guess it is safe to say that this is not just a one-time program. ^^
