BEACH RESORTS IN SAN JUAN BATANGAS: la luz

I still believe in paradise, but now at least I know it is not some
place that you can look for because it is not where you go..

It's how you feel for a moment in your life when you are a part
of something. And if you find that moment, it lasts forever.---- "The Beach."

(from the website)

LA LUZ RESORT located in the Southern tip of La Iya beach in San Juan Batangas was the last location of our Batangas episode shoot of POP Talk where I was one of the guest reviewers. It was already past  five pm when we got here having tried Blue Coral Beach Resort and Kabayan Resort. One thing I noticed is that the location of La Luz is already on the corner of the hill so it was a bit of an effort for our private van to reach the spot.Once at the reception, you will be greeted by a make shift kubo where resort employees greet you with cold drinks, cold towels and warm smiles. You can't see the accommodation from there as you still have walk down the cemented hallway to go to the beach front punctuated by trees ( a lot of them) and walk a few meters more to get to your rooms.

The rooms are located in two storey buildings on the foot of the hill.Imagine this. Hill ---Rooms ---Trees ---Beach. That's how the setup is. La Luz is a four hectare property I heard and since it's limited by the hill, it occupies a long coastline with the end of that coastline being the rock formations marking the boundary of La Iya beach.

I didn't have a good first impression of La Luz at first because I thought the buildings are already old.I find the designs very conventional so I didn't notice anything special about the place. We immediately went to the beachfront to do a couple of shoots for the program. Here, we walked to the beach towards the rock formations at the Southern tip and climbed one of them. It was here where I noticed a few guests snorkeling. It was getting darker faster so we snorkeled in the main beach area when it was our time to try it. There's not so many rock formations there so the view is basically boring. But I noticed a couple of colorful fish swimming around.

I also noticed that the beach slopes sharply in such a way that it easily gets deep only a few meters from the coastline. It is therefopre advisable to always wear your life vest should you decide to swim or snorkel. Also, if you are with kids, it's best that you always keep an eye on them.

The beach sand of La Iya is not that fine and white but good enough for my standard. At least it's clean and the sea is really blue. Since La luz is at the corner, it is an ideal place to stroll with a date.Yay!

ROOMS

La Luz currently has 5 types of rooms namely: Standard, Junior Premier, Junior Premier (Annex), Premier and Premier Loft rooms. The Jr. Premier Annex is located in our day trip area. All rooms are furnished with Aircon and private bathrooms. Management has opted not to place any TV sets or refrigerators in any of the rooms to maintain the natural ambiance.

Room Rate starts at P3,360 for an a/c room good for 4pax. I was amazed that it's affordable and that rooms are mostly tailored for group accommodation. At first glance, the rooms look monotonous and I though a little upgrade is necessary.I was supposed to go back to Manila that night together with the some of the crew of Pop Talk but it wa slaready late when we wrapped up so I decided to give it a go and stay overnight.

I like the Cabanas along the beach. They look soooo comfy!

AT NIGHT

Amazingly, the Resort transforms at night. It is during this time when you get to appreciate it more, the peace, the isolation, the trees separating the beach the the rooms and the dim liights on the corridors and facade of the buildings and inside the rooms. It's during the night when you get to appreciate the rooms as the lights add more accent and ambiance into them.Still, my opinion stands. A little upgrade would be very welcome for guests for sure.

BREAKING DAWN

Morning in La Luz is equally lovely. I woke up early the next day and immediately powered my camera to get a few shots of the beach and the huts along it. I remember that the night before, it was in one of these huts where we had our relaxing massage. That massage officially made me love the place. I realized that La Luz is a place which you will not fall in love easily but it would definitely get your heart once you give it a time.
