Taal Heritage Tour:MARCELA AGONCILLO HISTORICAL LANDMARK Taal Batangas

There's nothing very fancy  in this house,the architecture and even the furniture inside pale in comparison to other Heritage Houses in Taal Batangas.But with it is a rich history.No less than the 'Mother of the Philippine Flag'  lived here ----MARCELA AGONCILLO.

This landed Marcela Agoncillo heritage house among the list of Historical Landmarks recognized by the National Historical Institute.

MARCELA AGONCILLO
Born in Taal Batangas on June 24,1859.She is the wife of Felipe Agoncillo.Sold her jewelries while in exile to help her husband in the cause for Philippine Independence.She weaved the Philippine flag during their exile in Hongkong.The flag became the first and official flag of the Philippines.The same flag was the one raised by General Emilio Aguinaldo in Kawit Cavite on June 12,1898.She died in Taal on May 30,1946.

There's a guide who will tour you around the house and share interesting information of the house.If you are on a group tour,you can request for a weaver to do live demo of weaving.Be ready to pay 600 pesos per group though for the demo.No entrance fee is required but feel free to donate.There is a donation box near the staircase where you can also sign your name in the guestbook.

As I said earlier,there's nothing too fancy about the furniture and stuff so there's nothing much to see.By this time during our tour,I was to start having heritage-house-and-info-overload.But if there is one thing,I have high respect for this house and how this place nurtured the person who had a very big impact on the history of our country.
