REVIEW: Marco Polo Ortigas Manila -- Outstanding, Iconic Property with Virtually Flawless Service and Amazing Facilities @MarcoPoloManila

I knew Marco Polo Ortigas Manila is a 5-star hotel but I have underestimated it. After our staycation a few weeks ago I am convinced that this hotel is worthy of a 5-star tag. Every square inch of it from the room to lobby to their restaurants that bagged Phillipine Tatler's Best Restaurant in 2017, their bar, to their indoor pool and sauna, the gym and the spa, everywhere you look it's 5-star. You can tell that every spot is expensive and well taken care of. Service is impeccable, anywhere you go you see warm faces and people are always willing to assist you even at the elevator. There are so many good things to say about this hotel that I run out of superlatives!

LOBBY
The lobby reception is located at the 24th. Still only a few hotels in Manila have this setup. If you don't know what that means, it translates to privacy at its highest. Despite the lobby located in the mid-level of the building, the ceiling is high so you feel that it is breathable. It's all about space, the way the sofas and furniture are arrange, there is a lot of space to go around. And with the classy interior, you can already feel that this hotel is something.

Rooms and Suites

Marco Polo Ortigas Manila houses 316 luxurious guestrooms including upscale suites and Continental Club floors offering the best views of the bustling Ortigas skyline and panoramic valley and mountain views.

All rooms are spacious, stylishly appointed and done in elegant earth tones, with provisions for plush goose down bed toppers for an overall relaxing sleep experience.

Check-in time: 2:00 pm
Check-out time: 12:00 noon

Our room was a statement of class and affords a very lovely view of the Western section of Metro Manila less the annoying tall building and instead the beautiful mountains of Rizal Province. That is a bonus to the modern conveniences the room affords. Floor-to-ceiling glass wall that separates the restroom, a bath big tub, a comfy sofa, the most comfortable bed, a spacious work station that afforded me to make a few client calls throughout our stay. I have to commend the wifi connection. Very reliable. There were so many things to do around the hotel but we spent a lot of time staying inside the room because it was so cozy. Too bad I wasn't able to try the sauna at the locker area but we got what we came for and that is get lots of relaxation.

THE RESTAURANTS
Cucina and Lung Hin

We had breakfast buffet here and food was really tasty. Quite a spread for a breakfast buffet that goes free with the room charge. Marco Polo Ortigas Manila showcased its versatile dining outlets as Philippine Tatler names its two signature outlets, Cucina and Lung Hin, two of the best restaurants in the country for this year’s line up.

In line with Marco Polo Ortigas Manila’s positioning in the Manila restaurant landscape, Cucina’s distinctive character-building is different from the usual hotel food and beverage outlets. Cucina showcases a diverse live action stations featuring a symphony of flavors from the world’s different culinary capitals. It has a unique dining design with open kitchens that provides an intimate proximity to expert chefs in action.

THE INDOOR POOL
The pool was a surprise. I have some issues with indoor pools as they are are usually hard to maintain and therefore less sanitary not to mention less aesthetically appealing. But the one at Marco Polo Ortigas Manila which we tried at night mesmerized me. Beautifully lighted, so clean, feels fresh and intimate. Fresh towels abound, in yellow if I say so which I find really pleasant and clean to look at.

There are benches with cushions for those waiting or those who simply want to chill by the poolside. Wifi signal in the whole hotel including here is strong so no boring moment. One can snap a photo and share it instantly. What I like about their wifi is that there is only a single log-in so no more annoying passwords each time you move to different sections of the hotel. Water is always kept clean and heated so no need to worry about swimming at night. There is a lifeguard always on standby at any case assistance is needed. I am now a fan of indoor pools.

Locker Room and Sauna

In any hotel, one should look for the less used facilities. I am referring to common areas that are not very obvious but holds surprises and brings joy. I am an avid fan of saunas and between the pool and Flow Spa lies the locker room which one wouldn't easily notice unless you go for a swim and have to wash up before and after. The door is a little discreet as it is not along the main hallway but one will discover that it is a place of bliss. It feels so quiet here, so clean and of course they have a sauna you can access as long as the pool is open and that is until 10:00 pm. So be sure not to miss it.

The Gym
Been too lazy lately. The last time I went to the gym was a week before flying to Hong Kong on January 18. That was almost one month of being under-motivated. So I forced myself to wake up at 7:00 am despite thr comfort of staying in bed just to try the gym. Well if this place doesn't inspire you to workout then there might be something wrong with you. All the equipment you need for a complete workout is here.

There is also a gym instructor ready to help you out in your routine just in case you need assistance. I am a treadmill kind of guy but I remember having it for more than 30 minutes. That's a record. A few more lifting of weights and I was set to go to start the day in a positive mood. The view of the mountains of Rizal and the beautiful sunrise was an added inspiration.

Vu's Sky Bar and Lounge
Do check out Vu's Sky Bar and Lounge at the 45th floor. You will fall in love with its hip design and the lovely view from its two al-fresco sections affording the view of the skyline of Ortigas on one side and Rizal side on the other. Just make sure you come early as it only opens from 5:00 pm til 2:00 am with last call for orders at 1:00 am. We came here a little past 1:00 am so staff were tidying up but they were nice enough to grant our request to order drinks.

Flow Spa
Also don't miss Flow Spa at the 22nd level for the best relaxation one can have.
It offers a wide range of treatments and massage services perfect for unwinding and relaxation. It is operated by no less that Asmara Spa which is the pioneer in spa operations in the Philippines with branches in some of the best hotels in the country including Marco Polo Ortigas, Manila Peninsula, Solaire and Marco Polo Davao. It was A perfect culmination to a wonderful staycation. I will write a separate article about Flow Spa next and I promise to link it here.
