#Tangram SILENT DISCO at Malasimbo Festival 2015 @Tangram_ph

Silent disco. Really? Yes. But wait, by silent I don't mean people imagining music and dancing with only that in their head. That's crazy. By silent I mean you can play your favorite songs and party and still not bother other people. The trick, Silent Events Headphones.

And thanks to Tangram Silent Events Headphones that is now possible in the Philippines.
http://www.tangram.com.ph/ .The concept of partying is about to become even more hip and funky and silent. Silent is the new load!

So how does it work?
All you need are enough pairs of wireless headphones for all attendees and a transmitter to stream your audio. The system is user-friendly and can be operated by anyone. Any kind of audio player such as iPods, laptops, DJ mixers or smart phones can easily be connected to the transmitter.

Music source >>> transmitter >>> headphones>>>party!  Simple.

What the Hell is #MALASIMBO FESTIVAL?

For years I have been asking, what the hell is Malasimbo Festival? I understand it is a celebration of art and music but one cannot really completely grasp what it is about until a first-hand experience. And I finally tried it this year having been invited by Tangram Silent Events Headphones for media coverage. And I can finally say, Malasimbo is a hell of a festival that you should put on your yearly calendar.

The event is centered in Puerto Galera, a resort town in Oriental Mindoro just three hours South of Metro Manila.

Malasimbo used to be a one-weekend event.
This year saw the introduction of two-weekend festivities with the first March 6-8 for Music and Arts and the second March 13-15 for Lights & Dance. I was there on the 2nd week and this post summarizes my experience and observations during Malasimbo Festival 2015.

PUNTA DE FABIAN Baras Rizal: Creating Connections that are Built to Last

Note: This is a press release from Punta de Fabian
I have experienced staying at Punta de Fabian on two separate occasions and I can personally attest to the contents of this PR post.

The road that leads to the resort is winding and exciting, revealing hills that cling on the edge of Rizal’s mountains, providing a spectacular view of Laguna de Bay. On a hilltop at the heart of Baras is Punta de Fabian, an elegant escape from the usual city vibe just a few hours away from Manila.

From a distance, this three-hectare resort appears to be a paradise that emerged from its surroundings with its Filipino-Zen style. The lakefront suites are laid out to take advantage not just of the view of the lake, but of the locale’s majestic sunsets. Airy and built for optimum natural light, Punta de Fabian makes for an excellent place for both indoor and outdoor affairs.

CAMIGUIN TRAVEL GUIDE: Itinerary, Budget + Attractions and Tour Contacts

If you are flying to Camiguin in time for the peak season which according to our guide starts April, I hope this travel guide can help you out. We flew in early February so we got to enjoy Camiguin without having to compete for space. As a result, chill chill lang.

While many people might think Camiguin is too far and away going there is actually easy. An hour flight from Manila to Cagayan de Oro, bus ride to Balingoan Port for 3.5 hours and ferrry ride for less than an hour and you are in an island wonderland. I call it such because it is such a small island but it is packed with so many attractions, not to mention volcanoes and there are seven of them.

Many tourists visit Camiguin on backpacking or D.I.Y tours as we did and this blog is about that to help you out with your trip. But for those who don't have the luxury of time to do rigorous research and the pain of contacting people and going through the hassle of unexpected glitches along the way, there are travel packages at reasonable prices you can book to ensure a wonderful vacation.

About Camiguin

Barely 240 square kilometers in land area, Camiguin is the second smallest island of the Philippines in both area and population. It is just 23 kilometers at its longest and just a bit more than 14 kilometers at its widest. Within this small area lie seven volcanoes. Lovely little Camiguin is the island “born of fire.”
You can go around the island (following the coast) for two hours. That's how small it is.

Here is a tourist map of Camiguin with the attractions marked on it >>> Map

Attractions
People always remember Camiguin with White Island (the sandbar) and Sunken Cemetery. The White Island is indeed a marvel, my favorite of all and the Sunken Cemetery (although so so) is a trademark of the island, but there is more to this island than those. Such a small place packed with attractions. If there is one word to describe the experience , it would be "wet". Get ready to be wet, start with Katibawasan Falls, you'll get wet, then there are the pools--- soda pool, cold spring, hot spring-- then White Island and Mantigue Island. Not to mention the many other remote waterfalls scattered among the seven volcanoes here. Pack a lot of spare clothes and get ready to get wet!

1.Katibawasan Falls
I was a bit disappointed with the place at first. I was hoping for a little walk into the wild, certainly not like that of Ditumabo Falls aka MOTHER FALLS in San Luis Aurora, pero ito naman kasi sampung kembot muna sa parking area ayan na sya. Walang kahirap hirap. Easy to get easy to forget? And it is gated too. So as to make sure people have no way of running away from paying the entrance fee. But it is very accessible. Sige na nga. And the waterfalls itself is lovely. It's so high that it wouldn't fit in the frame of my 18mm lens when at its banks. The drop is well organized. Thin and white cutting into the air. On contact with the ground below, you can feel its power. Water is very clear and we enjoyed dipping here although cold.

CAGAYAN DE ORO 18 years later: Lunch at Chub's Diner and Night Out at Lifestyle District

To say that Boracay 2007 was my first real travel is a false statement. Ang late bloomer ko naman? Actually, I got to travel 10 years earlier. First plane ride ko rin yun. It was 1997 and I was in 3rd year high school and I was one of the National Press Conference representatives for Region 1 on sports writing. And the venue, Tangub City in Northern Mindanao. We got there via Cagayan de Oro so even if we only passed by, CDO was the first city I got to visit outside Luzon. I remember taking long bus rides to Tangub City and then during our event field trip until as far as Dapitan City. It was not the most pleasant of trips pero byahe parin.

And I never returned until this year. 18 years! Imagine? It has been a while and Cagayan de Oro has changed a lot. Just like other other cities in the Philippines enjoying the boom. I noticed so many constructions all over the city. Also many new dining places and Cagayan de Oro nightlife has never been this alive.

PILILLA WIND FARM: How to Get There + What to Expect #PilillaWindmills #Rizal

Why go as far as Bangui if there is already a wind farm in Pililla Rizal? Yes, the same company which operates Bangui Windmills in Ilocos Norte is constructing a wind farm in Rizal and it is not yet operational but one can already see the completed towers up close. This post will tell you how.

Pililla Windmills in Rizal are on top of the hills overlooking the beautiful plains of Tanay Rizal on one side and Laguna on the other. Of course you also get a very good view of Laguna de Bay. This is a welcome development in terms of renewable energy and a sure boost for local tourism in Rizal Province.

TOURISM STAR PHILIPPINES Awardees #ItsMoreFunInThePhilippines @TourismPHL

Blogging with a purpose. Ms. World? Hahahaha. Seriously, there is more to blogging than hits, earnings and bragging rights , especially travel blogging. We get to showcase the best that the Philippines has to offer and it helps independent travelers both local and foreign to plan for their trips and at the same time entice those who are still not convinced of the beauty of the country. The Department of Tourism recognize that especially after the success of the It's More Fun in the Philippines campaign which went viral thanks to social media. As such, the department awarded forerunners of our tourism efforts in an event which saw movers from both the traditional media to social media as well as individuals in what is dubbed ----TOURISM STAR PHILIPPINES.

TUNE HOTEL Ortigas Pasig: Budget Hotel at the heart of Ortigas Business District

I frequent this hotel and I am saying it just now. I wrote about Tune Ermita a few years back, a budget hotel in a district close to key historical spots in the old city of Manila, makes sense. Perfect for backpackers and budget traveler who are usually known for their savvy-ness for culture and history. And then they opened a branch in Ortigas Center, a major CBD in the Philippines, and at first I was like ,what is a budget hotel doing in a prime business district? Eyebrows raised.

DSC_6734-1

Then it made sense to me. Prior to Tune's arrival, an overnight stay in the area would cost 3,000php up. If you are like me who is only an hour away East in Rizal staying in a three-star hotel at that price would be too much if your only goal is to have a decent place to stay if you feel like not going home. Most patrons here I noticed are locals, families mostly. I started seeing a few Asians too but not so many whites.

The Best Thai Massage at NUAT THAI Pioneer and the worst massage ever at NUAT THAI California Garden Square Branch!

Disclaimer : I don't like the idea of discrediting one establishment so as to perk up another. I am not into that. What I do though is that I try to talk about my experiences. And if a place or service sucks, sorry but I have to say it. This is one classic example of that.

Having a two-hour massage is usual, but having it in two separate massage shops is another thing. That I tried last week. As usual, I was suffering from severe back pains so I had a massage for temporary relief. I was around the area of California Garden Square in Mandaluyong and saw a Nuat Thai branch there so I gave it a go. I am familiar with Nuat Thai having tried and reviewed three branches --Eastwood, Banawe and Pioneer-- so I thought the brand offers the same quality of service. I was wrong, sooooooooo wrong.

The Best Thai Massage at NUAT THAI PIONEER

Availed of Thai massage. I was there prior to opening and waited patiently. The masseur came and I was the first customer. His name is JR, a high-schoolish looking guy in his early 20s. He is short so he looks a little bulky rather than lean. I thought I was lucky because I was the first customer. That means no reason for him to be complaining tired after servicing many customers. I was lead to the massage room. Changed and waited. He made me wait for 10 minutes without notice. He came back and said he had a quick lunch because he might faint if he doesn't as I wanted to have 2-hour Thai massage. He said it in a confident voice as if close kami. I didn't mind.

And then he started with the Thai massage. I was ok with the pressure level but I noticed after a few pinches that this is not the standard Thai massage. I can tell after having tried it several times. He has no system, he was just pressing randomly as if not counting.

A few minutes after my legs. He started with my back. And he used his elbow. So it was all elbowing for a few minutes. And then he asked if I want him to step on me. I said go. He did.
