#MarriotManilaStaycation2.0

Marriott Manila again a few months after our 1st staycation there? Why not!I will never get tired of the place.Who would have thought?Well,I didn't pay for this one,I just won it after promoting Drum Tao last time. Thanks to the support of my readers. The best kayo!

The thought of going back excited me.I have been dying to stay hours at their indoor Sauna facility again. And that's what we exactly did.

Relax mode again. We didn't go anywhere else once we checked in other than dining in nearby Resorts World Manila which is connected to the hotel.#MarriotManilaStaycation2.0 activated!

thoughts on traveling Solo + meet #CRUMPLER MILD ENTHUSIAST, my new travel buddy

"Happiness is not real unless shared"   -----from the movie,Into The Wild

I rarely travel solo and asked myself recently why I prefer not to.The answer came last week when I had to go to Pangasinan alone where my wife was already waiting for me.I have endured long hours of traveling alone in the past.

I remember during university days,I had to ride the bus alone from Anda to Bayambang where my school is located. It was fun in most cases but at times gloomy and worrying. The country could be an unforgiving place, especially to a student who doesn't have much allowance to spare. That's when I learned that it's comforting to have somebody sit near you when you travel. That somebody now is who I refer to as my wife.

But I can't take my wife anywhere I go.Either due to schedule problems or financial restrictions. In that case,"somebody" has travelled with me recently more than my wife did, NIKE, my travel bag.

Nike has recently found a partner to accompany me---#Crumpler.Yes,I call my stuff their brand names as if it's their first names.

The CENTER SUITES Cebu City: the practical choice

We made it back to Sta.Fe port in time for the last ferry to leave for Hagnaya. We were lucky our pedecab driver was quick.

The last ferry saw only a few passengers.I saw less than 20 people on board. It was another 1-ride.Though old,the ship surprisingly has flat screen tv on board.I tried to entertain myself with the movie on showing.

It was already 7pm when we got to Hagnaya port.We missed the last Ceres bus so we contacted a tricycle to take us to Bago City where the last bus trip to Cebu City is at 9pm.Pahirapan kumuha ng tricycle (Haggling for a tricycle ride was a pain in the neck). The regular passenger tricycles were already retired for the day so we moved from one street corner to another to talk to some tricycles on stand by.They wanted to charge us 150pesos for a special trip when in the the regular fare is only 30 pesos per head.

Thanks to the help of a local who were on the same ferry with us,she got to talk to a tricycle driver passing by,The driver agreed to take us to Bago City for 30pesos per head.Me and my wife were the only passenger.I gave him all the small bills I have left in my wallet (including all the coins) amounting to 95pesos.I know how to reward non-abusive drivers.

2 HOURS IN BANTAYAN ISLAND + disappointed with Kota Beach Resort

"I have a picture of you in my mind, never knew it could be so wrong"
------lyrics from a song by Westlife

In a similar fashion,I had a picture of Bantayan Island and I was surprised it's something different from what I thought it is.

the road to BANTAYAN ISLAND

Call me crazy but I really tried to push the Northern Cebu experience to the limit.I knew we were close.Sogod is approximately an hour away to Hagnaya so I insisted we check out of Alegre early and head for Bantayan Island. The earliest we managed was 11am.one of the resort's limousine service took us to the highway where we waited for an airconditioned Ceres bus bound Hagnaya. It was 12:30pm when our bus came.We were in Hagnaya post by 2:05pm.Fare from Sogod to Hagnaya costs 65php per pax.

toying with LAGU BEACH BLANKET at Alegre Beach Resort

MEET OUR NEW TRAVEL BUDDY ---#Lagu Beach Blankets!

Lagu claims that their Beach Blankets are............

1.sand repellant
2.quick dry
3.allergen free

We wanted to check if they are true.So one sunny morning at Alegre Beach Resort Cebu,my wife and I grabbed the newest addition to our travel necessities and put it to the test. The 1st thing you will really notice is the sand repellant ability of the blankets. It's true,Unlike ordinary towels, Lagu repels sand allowing you to lay with ease while also conserving the beach.I understand that more deeply now. What's with conserving the beach I said when i read that part. That means, you don't bring with you the sand when you pack your blankets. hahaha.Clever.

That sand repellant ability for me on the other hand translates to convenience. As a busy travel blogger, you want to keep things that are easy to use and easy to maintain.Pull the Lagu out of the beach, shrug it once and the sands are all gone. You don't have to feel irritated keeping it in your bag with all those unwanted sand.yes, sands should remain at the beach and not in your bag.

breakfast buffet at ILANG-ILANG RESTAURANT Alegre Beach Resort

Breakfast in a resort setting is always a refreshing experience. This is something you don't achieve in an ordinary hotel setting although each experience is unique in itself.Weeks after our Alegre Beach Resort and Spa experience,I still remember eating breakfast in Ilang-Ilang Restaurant overlooking a lovely view of the pool and the sea below.

Alegre's breakfast buffet was included in our accommodation. For those who prefer 'a la carte' dining, they have an option for room only rates. The selection during our stay was rather simple yet sufficient.

ALEGRE SPA and my 1st INDONESIAN MASSAGE experience

More and more travelers who go away either for business or pleasure are discovering the bliss of having a good massage to top the overall experience. As such, more and more accommodations are realizing that a Spa component among the services they offer is integral in luring the discriminating customers.

Alegre Beach Resort has answered the demand by opening-----Alegre Spa.

Alegre Spa offers a range of services from massage, bath treatments, head, face, ear and eye treatments, foot treatments, even facial.See the complete list of treatments here: http://www.alegrebeachresort.com/spa
We tried having massage during our stay.Nothing beats a good massage treatment at night when you are about to retire for a relaxing sleep.

ALEGRE BEACH RESORT and SPA at night

Alegre is the Spanish term for happiness or contentment. The place lives to its name.

" Alegre provides respite to people who wants to reconnect with nature and bond with their family". I can attest to that.

One way to appreciate this is to stroll around the resort at night especially the pool area.I did during our stay and I took a few shots to share with you. Here's ALEGRE BEACH RESORT and SPA at night.

more beach photos of ALEGRE BEACH RESORT

As promised,I am posting more beach photos of Alegre Beach Resort and Spa in Sogod Cebu where we stayed overnight a few weeks ago.

Alegere should be proud of its beach front and three coves exclusive for the resort. It's a jewel for the resort.

felt Soooo Good at ALEGRE BEACH RESORT and SPA

Alegre Beach Resort was out of my travel radar until recently when a friend introduced the place to me.Located in Sogod Northern Cebu Province, our Alegre Beach Resort experience felt soooo good!

Sogod is approximately 2 hours away from downtown Cebu City.We took the bus from Cebu North Bus Terminal. The trip was comfortable as we opted for an aircon bus bound Hagnaya for only 85pesos per person. We told the bus driver to drop us at the intersection leading to Alegre, they know it.It is about four kilometers away from there to Alegre Beach Resort.

Once getting off the bus, a habal-habal driver offered us a ride for twenty pesos each.I immediately stared at my wife in utter surprise.I didn't imagine myself going to a high-end resort in such fashion.Although on second thought,I didn't imagine myself going there via tricycle as well.No choice.Being a travel blogger gives me an excuse to try all forms of transportation to get to a place and commuting was the best way to go so as I can tell my readers how to get to a place in the cheapest possible way.lusot

CEBU NORTH BUS TERMINAL: A Good Idea Gone Bad

I celebrated the idea when I heard of it.Being a Pangasinense living in Manila,I know how hellish it is to go back to my hometown on special holidays hopping from one bus terminal in Metro Manila to another.Sakit sa bangs!

Remember the central bus terminal in Kuala Lumpur (TBS)) that looks and works better than our NAIA Terminal 3? Here: http://www.pusangkalye.net/2012/06/impressed-by-terminal-bersepadu-selatan.html. I thought that's what we exactly need in Metro Manila.I heard plans are on the works to construct one on a government land in Taguig near the airport.Fingers crossed.

So when I heard they have one constructed and functional in Cebu as early as 1995,I said Alleluiah!Although it takes around 100pesos via taxi from Ayala Center,it's better than "bus station hopping" with hopes you will hit the right station and/or the schedule which you will not find out until you are actually there.I am referring to Cebu North Bus Terminal (CNBT) located in Subangdaku Mandaue City.

Unfortunately, the terminal seem to in a sorry state when I saw it.Another case of a good idea gone bad.

Partying in Cebu City? You should be at AMNEZIA SUPERCLUB!

I  thought about having a beer or two and partying in a club was the last thing in my mind.Turns out, more was in store.Happiness was waiting at AMNEZIA SUPERCLUB!

what's cooking at FLORA CAFE Hotel Elizabeth Cebu?

What's Cooking at Hotel Elizabeth Cebu? Here's a food photoblog of what they have in store for guests.

The hotel's restaurant,Flora Cafe, could give a five-star accommodation a run for its money when it comes to food.I was impressed by their Bento-Bento-All-You-Can selection last time.I wrote about it in my blog here: http://www.pusangkalye.net/2012/07/bento-bento-lunch-all-you-can-at-flora.html

Two weeks ago,we were able to try their buffet selection. This is what they offer for dinner buffets.

HOTEL ELIZABETH CEBU can give 5-star accommodations in Cebu "a run for their money"

I was not a big fan of this hotel at first---that is,in reference to it's sister Hotel in Baguio.I know it's new and chick but it didn't appeal to me as much as the one in Baguio did.I am referring to Hotel Elizabeth Cebu, the latest addition to the Fersal Group's growing list of accommodations.I think I have fallen in love to its charm though after seeing it the second time.

I have already featured it here in my blog before in my Peak Inside Series: http://www.pusangkalye.net/2012/07/peek-inside-hotel-elizabeth-cebu.html but I haven't tried checking in until last week when I was flown to Cebu by the hotel since I am working with them on a project.I brought my wife with me of course.

my favorite MOBILE APP while on the road

I wonder who among you are, like me,mostly awake when on a day trip?As much as possible, especially when traveling in a new place,I stay awake and look around.I observe and marvel at the landscape and at the same time, mentally navigate where I am.My brain works in a GPS manner when I hit the road.I always feel the need to keep a sense of direction. As such,I keep looking at my maps, either online or in print.

One of my favorite MOBILE APP while on the road is Google Map on the iPhone.

How to commute/get to RESORTS WORLD MANILA

Will be spending a night in Marriott Manila again this weekened, something I welcome after the tiring Northern Cebu trip last week.As early as now,I am already imagining myself basking in the sauna over poolside.I like intervals like this coz I don't have to exert so much effort to enjoy a good vacation.

Not completely effortless though, despite being located within the Metro, commuting to and from Resorts World Manila still is a pain in the neck sometimes---especially if you don't have a car like me.

So Here's HOW TO COMMUTE TO RESORTS WORLD MANILA.

last ditch attempt to try Malaysian Food at Petaling Street: SPICY PAN MEE + MEE GORENG

Our Penang sidetrip proved to be too tight on the schedule we weren't able to eat as much as we wanted. On our last last day there,we weren't even able to have lunch. We went back to the Inn after visiting The Goddess of Mercy Temple, packed and boarded the taxi to the ferry terminal. It was the end of Hari Raya and we didn't want to risk being caught in heavy traffic back to KL.

Yes,despite the good highway system, their wide roads in Malaysia also clog during public holidays. We left Butterworth via bus at around 1:30pm so the congestion was not much of a problem. We arrived in KL at around 6:30pm,an hour more than our actual trip on the way to Penang. We decided to make a last ditch attempt at Malaysian food since our Airphilexpress flight back to Manila was at 11:55pm.

THE GODDESS OF MERCY TEMPLE--our last stop in our Georgetown Trishaw Tour

This was our last stop in our short trishaw tour of Georgetown's Core Zone.Yeah,we paid RM30 for three destinations, Queen Victoria Tower,Penang Peranakan Mansion and THE GODDESS OF MERCY TEMPLE.

The temple is dedicated to Kuan Yin,the goddess of mercy. The first foundation was laid in 1728 by Chinese settlers and completed in 1800.

PINANG PERANAKAN MANSION---overwhelming!

This is one of the places you should not miss in Georgetown Penang. It's so famous that even most guidebooks and tourists brochures have it on the cover.

The Peranakans are a community of Chinese unique Penang and sorrounding region,They are locally called Babas and Nyonyas and are also called Straits Chinese, having settled along the British Settlements of Penang,Malacca and Singapore. The Peranakans adopted local Malay ways and British colonial lifestyle. These influenced its rich culture, customs, cuisine, language and lifestyle that are still evident in Penang today.

The PINANG PERANAKAN MANSION which is a typical home of a rich Baba a century ago is re-created to allow visitors a glimpse into the opulent lifestyle, customs and traditions in those days.

Finally! A NEW #It'sMoreFuninthePhilippines DOT Official AVP we can all be proud of!

I am blogging about this all of a sudden because I am so proud to say that this is my favorite promotional video to date.If this is indeed an official campaign video from the DOT then they sure did a good job!I've been showing it to my South Korean students.Proudly this time! Ito yung tipong dimo ikakahiya.Good quality videos and photos, and the song,I was not a fan of it when it came out but I have to admit it is addictive.

More than a tourism promotional video, this sums up my pride and joy as a Filipino. Finally a video I can show as an introduction to what we have and who we are.Of course I assure everyone we have so much more that a 2:45minute-video wouldn't be enough.Nicely done!

Gojab DOT! Oh,I haven't commented about the updated website yet.I thought I like it better than the old one which looked like it was created by a college freshman about to major in new media, and I like the minimalist approach to it would have been better if there's more side bar functionality in it.It's still easy to get lost when you start clicking things. And I don't like the main page too. It's lacks the holding power for a 2nd click.A more flashy main page perhaps, and just put the 6 categories on the side bar? A better map? A more interactive site?Especially, more than the beautiful photos,a guide on where to go and how to get there.

I guess the website is still a work in progress as there are still other functions that you cannot click, say, Top Destinations.Looking forward to more changes soon. But as for this video, good job indeed!
