Ampalaya Shake and Tamarind Shake at BAI YOK Thai Restaurant Tomas Morato

There is one restaurant worth mentioning before I officially start with my Malaysia2.0 series.Discovered it before flying out of the country last week.Together with my wife and a fellow blogger,John of www.kumagcow.com , we set out to sample their food so as to give an honest to goodness review of the place.

The invite was from BAI YOK restaurant in Tomas Morato Quezon City.To be honest,I never heard of the restaurant before. It newly opened a few months ago and we came to sample how "authentic"the food is in this Thai restaurant.

We all get attracted to the interiors like a moth gets attracted to the lamp.Interiors set restaurants apart from each other if all else is even.It also establishes a particular brand's mark.Being talked about is a big deal in marketing.Bai Yok has the Thai feel interior but one would rather feel it's lacking (bitin) in that aspect.Other than the giant buddha picture on one side of the wall, the food presentations and the touch of Thai accent on the restaurants logo, there's nothing much Thai about it.

We got the chance to talk to the owner of the restaurant and raised that concern as if it is everything in a restaurant. That's when we learned that they have just opened a few months ago but are actually planning to move to the 2nd floor of the restaurant next to it to maximize space.Such is the explanation for the conservative interior.

I know many Globe users have been airing their frustrations over some s glitches on mobile and internet signals but they persevered and stayed---because they know something big is coming. On my behalf,I am sticking my nose on Globe coz I want to stay with the leader in postpaid. And looks like the wait is paving off, as Globe announces commercial launch of LTE.

Globe, PH’s largest 4G network, first to announce LTE service for mobile Philippine 4G pioneer Globe Telecom announces its fourth generation Long-Term Evolution (4G LTE) network for broadband and mobile telephony use. red carpet premier photos GUNI-GUNI ------now in cinemas!

Been missing out a lot on the local scene lately.Blame it on a couple of errands I had to do plus the seasonal self-preoccupation which is becoming a regular recurrence. There are a couple of movies for example that I wanted to see but I had no time or the will to do so ------Bourne Legacy, The Reunion and GUNI-GUNI just to name a few.

I am sharing to you here the photos taken by my correspondent Krizelle Marie pari-An during last week's red carpet premier of the movie Guni-Guni which stars Lovi Poe, Empress Schuck, Benjamin Alves, James Blanco, Gina Alajar, Neil Ryan Sese, Julia Clarete, Gerarld Pesigan, Ria Garcia.

I heard that this hotel is newly renovated,a complete renovation that is.If so,they did a good job coz the building and the rooms look brand new.The face of New Fersal Hotels indeed.I am referring to FERSAL HOTEL Kalayaan.

This is where me and my wife stayed overnight after visiting three other Fersal Hotels a few weeks ago since I am working on a project with them.I was surprised to learn that this place was renovated, coz if I was not told about it,I would have thought it's a newly opened hotel.

The thing is, we get curious at what to expect inside the rooms and the photos provided in the official websites of some hotels/resorts are not enough to satisfy that curiosity. Here in my PEEK INSIDE SERIES, you get to see more photos of the accommodations you are eying for on your next travel destination..........

a peek inside FERSAL HOTEL Malakas Quezon City

My first encounter with the Fersal Hotel brand was Annapolis Branch Cubao.I was quite satisfied with the place given the price range and actually wrote about it in my blog.We also stayed in Neptune Makati branch which is more modern and chick.

Been working on a project with the Fersal Group so I got the chance to see all six (6) branches and I finally have a sense of what the brand stands for the how impressive it is given the price range and therefore, the budget accommodation category.Let me take you inside each of them here in my blog so that you have a sense of what I am talking about. Will be flooding each entry with pictures so you could discriminate how these accommodations trade in the ever competitive hospitality sector.Let's start with FERSAL HOTEL Malakas QC which is one of my favorites.

I know right. It bears my first name but I have nothing to do with the brand. How I wish it's mine but only in my dreams.hahaha.So for those who are asking, this business is not mine.I am referring to Antonio's Coffee and Bibingka in SM Megamall.

Antonio's is a food kiosk located at the 5th floor bridge-way and is one of the participating stores in this year's MEGA FOOD SALE.

50% Off on Triffle Tea at AKIBA CAFE

I always go to SM Megamall but I hardly notice food kiosks there. That's because I don't usually pay attention.Such my surprise therefore, there are patches of good food finds, if only one would look closely. One good example is AKIBA CAFE at the 2nd floor of bldg.A.

We were here for the MEGA FOOD SALE (Aug.17,18,19,2012) and AKIBA CAFE happens to be one of the participating stores. As such, they have a Crazy Trifle Drinks On Sale Promo-----Buy 1 Get 50% Off on the next trifle.

won an overnight stay at SERI PACIFIC HOTEL, it's Malaysia again!

Is it luck of persistence? I think both.I joined the facebook fanpage contest of Kuala Lumpur City Gallery buy submitting a photo and I was picked! That means an overnight stay at a 5-star Hotel with free breakfast for two worth RM500.Seri Pacific Kuala Lunpur.Yes, exactly two months after my tour of Kuala Lumpur with other Filipino bloggers and I will be flying back this day next week!

Seri Pacific,Malaysia,KL,Penang,here we come!!!

WENSHA SPA is my standard for good and clean massage

I think I am making massage and spa houses in Manila rich. I am a regular at some of them, even twice a month at times. But if there's one Spa worth your money, it would be Wensha Spa.

Wensha Spa is my standard when it comes to massage.I go here not as a blogger but as a regular customer who needs relief from back pain and all the stresses of daily life. And the reason why I keep coming back is because they have the best masseurs in town in the price range of 700-800pesos. That price is very competitive as it falls in between the cheap massage clinics offering a few minutes of relief and nothing else after and the expensive ones which offers good facilities but almost similar in terms of the quality of massage. It indeed boils down on the masseurs at the end of the day.

WHY TRAVEL according to Henry Rollins

"I beg young people to travel. If you don't have a passport, get one, take a summer, get a backpack and go to Delhi,go to Saigon,go to Bangkok,go to Kenya.Have your mind blown, eat interesting food, dig some interesting people, have an adventure,be careful.Come back and you're going to see your president differently,no matter who it is.Music,culture,food,water.Your showers will be shorter. You're going to get a sense of what globalization looks like. It's not what Tom Friedman writes about,I'm sorry.
WHY TRAVEL according to Henry Rollins

You're going to see that global climate change is very real. And that for some people, their day consists walking 12miles for four buckets of water. And so there are lessons that you can't get out of a book that are waiting for you at the other end of that flight.A lot of people--Americans and Europeans --come back and go, "ohhhhhh".And the light bulb goes on. "
----------Henry Rollins

Gran Canaria holidays are the perfect choice for families looking for a laid-back, wall to wall sunshine break this summer – and Puerto Rico is the sunniest spot on the island!

With temperatures between 25 and 30 degrees C during the summer months, it’s the ideal place to enjoy the sunshine without worrying about it being too much for little ones. Simply pack plenty of sunscreen, UV suits and hats, and keep children out of the heat around midday, and you’ll be all set to enjoy lots of lovely fun in the sun as a family.

Don’t forget the bucket and spade and the beach balls – Puerto Rico has a stunning golden sand beach made with sand shipped in especially from the Sahara! A fact sure to thrill the kids.

Pinaputok na Manok sa Dahon at ISDAAN Floating Restaunrant Tarlac

I always pass by Gerona Tarlac and I have noticed Isdaan a long time ago.But buses bound to Pangasinan don't stop over the area so I wasn't aware of what Isdaan was all about.I thought it was some sort of an amusement park since there are gigantic statues of animals on the entrance. That's until Thunderbird Resort took us on a tour of Poro Point last October 2011 and we stopped by for lunch. That's when I learned of the restaurants concept.Floating Nipa huts dot the area. The water around these nipa huts are where they catch the fish you order,at least that's the idea.

my version of ADOBO with liver spread and McCormick Bay Leaves

Starting the week not with a travel post but with Food. You got that right.Househusband na househusband ang peg dito.lol.If you can remember,we got a hold of a couple of McCormick spices last time so my wife and I decided to show how these spices could be used in our favorite dishes. The first attempt was courtesy of my wife and it was quite a failure.

It's my turn this time around.I had difficulty thinking what to cook since I also suck at the kitchen.I was thinking of chicken curry since we have McCormick Curry powder but I am not a fan of curry so I had to think of another recipe.I then remembered that we also have Bay Leaves  (laurel) so adobo (my favorite) came as an easier alternative.

MARRY ME AT MARRIOTT: A Grand Wedding Fair

June is the wedding month in the Philippines.Anybody who knows why?I haven't really given much though about it why its the most popular month to be married but I reckon that it's because June is the start of the rainy season------the perfect time to cuddle.Honeymoons are more intimate nga naman on cold weather.

But rainy season in the Philippines is quite lengthy. So if you miss June, you still have until September to take advantage of the cooler rainy season temperatures.Marriott Manila seem to be capitalizing on that with MARRY ME AT MARRIOTT, A Grand Wedding Fair.

No fairy tale wedding ever made possible by going solo—it’s a milestone by two people achieved by equally passionate individuals. After all, it’s something that never comes easy.

Marriott understands that every wedding deserves all the attention and hard work. And to pay tribute to the brand’s long standing commitment in making every dream wedding happen, Marriott Manila is organizing its first and upscale wedding fair event of the country, Marry Me at Marriott: A Grand Wedding Fair. Happening on August 25 to 26 at the Grand Ballroom, this two-day event is also made possible by Jaguar, Bobbi Brown, Rustan’s the Beauty Source, Rustan’s Weddings and Beyond, Lab Series, and Megaworld.

I have known him for years.I don't know exactly when but it has been quite some time.We got acquainted of course through blogging. He constantly visits and comments in my blog and I also do the same to his. That way,we come to know each other a little more each time.He is an online buddy, and one of the few people I was very eager to meet.I am referring to Lam Ching Fu otherwise known as Fufu of http://lamchingfu.blogspot.com/.He is a blogger from Malaysia.I call him Fufu the Great coz I admire his travels and the many things he has achieved at such a young age.

He's been to 56 countries.Wow!That includes the Philippines of course. He has been here twice actually and I keep inviting him to come back the 3rd time but busy schedule prevailed so the meetup never happened.

The 95-year old rare Jelutung (Dyera Costulata) tree near KL Tower

I think this deserves a separate entry.

I decided to have a quick snack before climbing the observation deck of KL TOWER so I went to the balcony at the base of the complex. I noticed this giant tree so I came closer to have a look.

This is what the marker says---- "This rare Jelutung (Dyera Costulata) tree is 95 years old. To conserve it, the position of the Tower was shifted to avoid the tree and a series of soldier piles were installed as a retaining wall during the foundation excavation period to prevent the tree from toppling. The conservation of the tree by perspective planning and construction methods, incurring a total cost of RM430,000.00, permits this natural rarity to be enjoyed by our future generations.

"To see the world in another perspective" that's one of the reasons why I want to keep traveling that would sometimes means taking a different angle--literally.

Kuala Lumpur HOP-ON,HOP-OFF BUS: route, ticket prices & operation hours

"So many things to see,so little time" --we always hear that ayt?And I always say that too.We simply wanna see and experience more.KL is no exemption. So the question is,what is the fastest way to go around KL?By taxi of course.Fast and convenient. But not without a price.

So if you are traveling on a tight budget at a tight schedule,I would suggest you make google work weeks before your flight and do your research,on where to go and what transportation to take.In Kuala Lumpur, public transportation is efficient.I am a fan of their train system. There is another alternative. For first timers,I would say,the most efficient and cheapest way to see KL is via the Hop-on,Hop-off Bus.

NATIONAL MOSQUE (Masjid Negara) Kuala Lumpur

I heard that the best and cheapest way to go around key attractions in Kuala Lumpur is via Hop-on Hop-off bus.I found a spot under a tree in Merdeka Square and paused to check my tourist map.The maps are easy to use.You will not miss your destination coz they are marked on the map.But that doesn't mean there's no more challenge. In a city with so many interesting attractions and not to mention, buildings, you will still be required to use your head to navigate your way.

Or maybe I should take back what I said that it's easy.(Gulo ko lang.hahaha) I saw the mark of the nearest hop-on hop-off bus but failed to find it.Saw another stop near the National Mosque which is only a few kilometers away from Merdeka Square. That's where I headed next.

"5-star bed at a 1-star price? "only at TUNE HOTELS

"Sometimes, all you really need from a hotel is a hot shower and a good night's rest. "---That's what I have always been saying.A comfortable bed is important to me and I am sure to most of us.But this direct quote is not mine, this is the marketing  tagline of TUNE HOTELS.

The first time I heard about the brand was during our trip in Kuala Lumpur. Our guide assigned by Tourism Malaysia was very funny and he called our attention towards the hotel near KLIA. Upon returning to the Philippines,I was surprised to know that the brand has already cemented its presence in the country.

There are so many things to say about this brand.A hotel which allows you to choose what you need and pay for only the things you ask for----a brilliant idea!

MERDEKA SQUARE and my visit to Kuala Lumpur City Gallery

I was walking around the grounds of Jamek Mosque when I saw the giant flag pole towering the horizon. It got me curious and ask a fellow tourist. She happens to walk by the mosque from there and it was her who said that it's at the heart of Independence Square.I immediately proceed there after the brief walk around Masjid Jamek and my resolve to stay in the city rather than try Genting Highlands intensified.

This is like Luneta for Malaysia with loads of history and interesting buildings around it.They call it MERDEKA SQUARE.

JAMEK MOSQUE made me forget Genting Highlands and stay in KL

Left my friends apartment in Bukit Jalil Sunday morning not having any clear plan as to where to go.I wanted to cover as many areas as possible and I have to admit I envied my fellow bloggers for going outside KL and deep into the Malaysian countryside. One even went as far North as Penang.

Somehow managed to go South to Penang but that's only 2hours away.So I though of leaving the city again and try Genting Highlands. The problem is,we had to check out of the hotel at 6pm so I was skeptical I might consume a lot of time on the road.

NASI LEMAK and TEH TARIK Night Out with Mark and Sharits

This is one thing I learned in Malaysia, vices come at a price.Basic commodities are cheap, gas, food, fares, clothes, but those that you don't need are expensive, cigarettes, beer and that kinda stuff. That explains why my title speaks of "night out" but what we had was food trip instead of a drinking session.

I came all the way from Melaka that day.Had to catch the 6pm bus to get to KL by 8pm.Took the MRT from TBS to Bukit Jalil station where Mark and his friend Sharits we already waiting. They went there all the way from work.It was a regular workweek for both of them so I was really thankful to both of them for making the time.Sharits even drove for us.
